"From the Balkans to India" Exhibition by Galia Nazaryants

Opening: Friday 19th June 2015 at 7.30 pm

Exhibition Duration: 19/06/15 – 30/06/15

The exhibition will be inaugurated by Nicos Synnos, filmmaker, academic, Cyprus University of Technology.

Galia Nazaryants:

“My best photos are something you won’t see every day, something that providence put on my way and I was just a lucky soul to capture that moment for the rest of humanity.” – that’s how Galia Nazaryants describes her photographic experience. Galia discovered a fascinating world of photography in 2003 when she got back to school to study Interior Design (her first profession is translator) and a two-year photography course was a part of a comprehensive and rewarding curriculum. Since then, camera became her main and favorite creative media, a way to explore the world. Apart from photography, Galia’s interests include cinema, design, architecture and travelling. Travelling is particularly important and inspiring as it brings a spark into her life.

Galia’s photos are coming mainly from her extensive trips and fill a niche between reportage and art photography. 2014 was extremely productive for her. Galia participated in several photography workshops, visited 10 countries; her photographs from Istanbul brought her 1st prize at Vienna International Photo Awards – a documentary photography competition; for her work in the Balkans she was invited to join Bucharest Urban League of photographers for the Balkans (BULB)

The present exhibition is a part of Galia’s ongoing project with the working title “The way we are”. The idea is to create a collection/book of single images showing what people of various backgrounds and cultures share in common. We are amazingly different individuals but at the core we are striving for the same things in life: peace, love, beauty. Galia’s photos are a quest for beauty, everywhere: in forms, in colors, in places, in faces and ultimately in peoples’ hearts. She totally relates to F. Dostoevsky’s saying that "Beauty Will Save the World". She was born in Moscow and for the last 15 years lives in Cyprus.

“Inside Outside & In Between the Buffer Zone” Exhibition by Barbara Laborde

Opening: Friday 24th April 2015 at 7 pm Exhibition Duration: 24/04/15 – 13/05/15

6x6 Centre for Photography proudly presents this exhibition, in collaboration with Alliance Française de Limassol. With the support of: L'institut français de Chypre, Αθλητική Επιστημονική & Πολιτιστική Ένωση (ΑΘΛΕΠΕΝ) and Société Générale Bank - Cyprus Limited (SGBCy)

With the contribution of: Loukia & Michael Zampelas Art Museumand Leroy Merlin - Cocktail offered by: French Depot

180km-long and 7-km-wide, barely 4m of space in some places: the buffer zone has different faces; it is sometimes a mountain, a single lane, a succession of lands, villages or ruins. You follow it for a while and then you lose track of it. You face it or simply guess its presence behind military watchtowers. You are stopped by its barbed wire or you enter it without noticing. Depending on who and from where one looks at it, the buffer zone repels, fascinates, disturbs, intimidates or is totally ignored. It remains an itchy scar, no longer bloody, but still an open wound. So present. So elusive. The line, as it is known, is not really a line. Two ceasefire lines delimit the buffer zone, with a different reality behind each of them and between them a territory where life continues. The UN troops are working there every day, Georgios and Osman cultivate their fields, Stelios visits the cemetery of his village, Elena opened a kindergarten while Mihalakis and his wife live there all year long! The buffer zone is 40-years-old, but only a few insiders really know it. And this for an obvious reason: without the permission and a serious UN escort, we are limited to get a glimpse of it and imagine it from outside.

Barbara Laborde is a French photojournalist based in Nicosia. She has been following the buffer zone for over a year, seeking to capture this territory and question its reality. The documentary work she presents, offers visitors a long journey within the buffer zone and along both its southern and northern sides, from west to east. A mosaic of stories and images, like so many opened windows on this hidden strip of territory, and some crucial 'keys' to better understand it.

«Reflections» Art exhibition by Froydis Lynaas & «Memories» Photo exhibition by Beren Gazmararian

Norwegian artist Froydis Lynaas and British photographer Beren Gazmararian co-present the exhibitions ‘Reflections’ and ‘Memories’ respectively, at 6x6 Centre for Photography in Limassol. The exhibitions will open on Friday, October 10th, at 7p.m. and will remain open until October 17th, 2014.

A long lasting friendship and a strong relationship with Cyprus is what connects the two women, who have both chosen the island as the place where they live and create.

About the artists:
Froydis Lynaas
Frøydis Lynaas is a Norwegian artist, educated in Norway. She left Norway in 1998, and has been living in Cyprus for the past twelve years. Her paintings reflect different aspects of modern life, dreams and way of thinking. The human being itself is, for her, a source of inspiration. “We are bombarded with information and news every day. The world seems to be falling apart, and there is an atmosphere of stress and anxiety. People are occupied with too many things like social media, smartphones, money and work, and try to sort out their relationships and stressful lives without focusing on the things that really matter such as living in love and harmony which makes life meaningful. The essence is to be true to ourselves, family and friends, and it is vital to listen to our inner voice”.

Beren Gazmararian
Beren Gazmararian is a London based photographer who maintains a strong connection with Cyprus as she spends much of her time on the Island and specifically in Vouni village. She specialises in portrait photography as she finds people an endless source of fascination. Beren is also a passionate traveller and on her travels she captures the world with her camera. This exhibition is a small collection of her travels and memories.
“A successful image taken by another photographer is the only thing in the world that makes me jealous!”
