As part of the annual worldwide celebrations for the International Animation Day, the Cyprus chapter of ASIFA (the International Animated Film Association), is organizing a free film screening event in locations across Cyprus.

The selection of films has been curated by Panagiotis Kyriakoulakos, Zeynep Akcay and Michalis Kalopaidis and has a special focus on the East Mediterranean region.

"Exposing Muybridge" Documentary Screening 5 Aug 2022

6x6 Centre for Photography partners up with the 17th Lemesos International Documentary Festival for another edition and presents the screening of the documentary feature film “Exposing Muybridge”, by Marc Shaffer.

Synopsis:
Few figures have played such a seminal role in our moving picture history as the revolutionary photographer Eadweard Muybridge. His unprecedented images of running horses instantly transformed the camera into a machine of unmatched powers of perception and persuasion, and set the course for the birth of cinema. Muybridge was a complicated man whose personal story was imbued with ambition, success, loss, and even cold-blooded murder. He directly inspired numerous artists from Francis Bacon to David Hockney to Gary Oldman, whose passionate contribution to this documentary is exceptional.

Synopsis:
The film is a portrait of an artist and a portrait of a deadly disease, severe anorexia. During the last years, Lene Marie Fossen (1986-2019) became recognized as a world class photographer. She had a unique photo-project: to expose the shame and to confront the disease. Her photo art is naked and honest and the audience gets to meet an unusual girl in a raw and poetic film.

SYNOPSIS:  
A biopic about the Italian photographer Letizia Battaglia known for her intrepid recording of the devastation caused by the mafia in her native Sicily. The feature documentary weaves together Battaglia’s striking black-and-white photographs, classic Italian movies, rare archival film, and the now 84-year-old’s own memories, to paint a portrait of a remarkable woman whose bravery and defiance helped expose the Cosa Nostra’s brutal crimes.

SYNOPSIS:  
Instant Dreams by Willem Baptist is a visual tribute to the fascination of Polaroid photography. When Polaroid announced the end of instant film in 2008, the last still working factory was bought by a small group of enthusiasts. Among them is the retired scientist Stephen Herchen who is still trying to unravel the secret of the lost chemical formula.

ΣΥΝΟΨΗ
Ο Chris Hondros ήταν ένας από τους καλύτερους φωτογράφους της γενιάς του, ο οποίος εργάστηκε σε εμπόλεμες ζώνες. Είχε καλύψει κάθε σημαντικό γεγονός στον πλανήτη κατά τη διάρκεια της ενήλικης ζωής του. Αρχίζοντας από τον πόλεμο στο Κόσσοβο το 1999, ο Chris έζησε από πρώτο χέρι τον πόλεμο και την καταστροφή για πάνω από 10 χρόνια, μέχρι και τον θάνατό του στη Λιβύη το 2011.

Chris Hondros was one of the best conflict photographers of his generation, having covered practically every major world event of his adult life. Beginning with the war in Kosovo in 1999, Chris served as witness to more than a decade of strife and conflict before he was killed in combat in Libya in April, 2011.
